UMkhanyakude District Municipality, led by His Worship Mayor Cllr Siphile Mdaka, today, introduced the appointed Contractor for the Mansiya Water Project to the community of Big 5 Hlabisa. The Mayor was accompanied by Members of the Executive Committee and other Councillors. The community hall was filled to capacity signaling that the project is highly appreciated.
The event was graced by the presence of local Inkosi, Inkosi Xolani Dlozilesizwe Mdletshe and izinduna, who applauded the project and welcomed the development in his area.
Mayor Mdaka outlined the district's long-term vision to provide clean water from the uPhongolo River to all communities and extended gratitude to Inkosi Mdletshe for accommodating this critical project.
The Mayor announced that work on the existing pipeline will commence next week, introduced uMngeni-uThukela Water as a strategic partner, and officially introduced the Contractor to the community. The project will be implemented over a period of six months.
The Municipality has expressed confidence in the contractor's experience, dedication and ability to deliver on time, referencing his successful completion of a previous project within a 4-month timeframe.
Mayor Mdaka emphasized that the project must benefit locals, especially women and local businesses, through fair and balanced recruitment that prioritizes indigent families.
