Water & Sanitation
The aim at Umkhanyakude District Municipality is to provide water supply to a basic level of service to all households in each family municipality within the district.
The Mayor of Umkhanyakude District Municipality, Jeffrey Vilane, officially handed over seven brand new water trucks to the local municipalities, within its district such as Hlabisa, The Big 5 False Bay, Jozini, Umhlabuyalingana and Mtubatuba, last year. Water is vital for any community, not only for drinking but in the control of hygienic conditions to live in. The water trucks with a 10 000L capacity is key to improving service delivery in the affected areas within each municipality. Umkhanyakude District Municipality’s medium term goal is to refurbish seven sets of pumps and pipework, electrical supply at various pump stations and reservoirs. This includes leaking, existing connector mains and reticulation pipelines as well as refurbishing the raw water abstraction system.
The long term goal is the construction of seven concrete reservoirs, the construction of rising mains from the pump stations to reservoirs, and the construction of gravity mains and reticulation pipes.
